Short synopsis
Why is burning wool a bad idea? On a visually rich journey through eleven European countries, the film follows shepherds, researchers, designers and wool processors to explore an almost forgotten raw material. From transhumance in Transylvania to rare traditional skills, it connects wool with biodiversity, climate change, the growing risk of wildfires, rural life and social and political questions — revealing how Europe treats this valuable resource today.
Walter Aigner — director and producer
Walter Aigner grew up with wool and spent 25 years making wool carpets, having studied economics in Vienna. The father of three grown-up sons is a self-taught filmmaker. He began work on this documentary in spring 2021, taking on every role himself apart from post-production.
